Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has finished his loan spell with Burnley and has returned to the club.
The 29-year-old was due to train back at Chelsea for the first time on Tuesday morning, after his loan with Burnley was terminated, but those plans have now changed in rapid pace.
According to Sky Sports News, Drinkwater has arrived at Aston Villa’s training ground to undergo a medical, after the two clubs agreed a loan deal for the midfielder.
Drinkwater endured a tough spell at Burnley – where he managed less than an hour of football in the Premier League in half the season – and an injured ankle meant he missed several weeks of football in September after being attacked by a gang of men outside a Manchester nightclub.
Chelsea agreed to continue to pay a significant proportion of Drinkwater’s wages which has eased his way to join Aston Villa on another loan deal.
Drinkwater has failed to establish himself at Chelsea after moving to the club in 2017 from title-winning Leicester City for a fee of £35m.
