Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has complained of a lack of cutting edge in front of goal this season.
Lampard’s complaint of a lack of clinical finishing has been justified. According to Opta, Chelsea have missed the second highest number of ‘big chances’ (45) in the league this season, having scored as many ‘big chances’ (21) as Everton, Wolves and Spurs.
One player responsible for Chelsea’s wastefulness in front of goal is Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.
According to The Telegraph, Abraham has missed way more big chances (15) than he has scored (seven). He has had a good season scoring 13 league goals in 23 league appearances but the 22 year old should have scored more for the Blues.
Chelsea have been linked with Edinson Cavani this January. Cavani hasn’t played enough this season to accurately compare to Abraham but his record last season is that of a merciless goalscorer. He scored more (17) big chances than he missed (11) for a total of 18 league goals in 21 games.
Cavani’s stats shows he is a ruthless striker but is he really the man to answer Chelsea’s problems in front of goal?
