Danny Drinkwater has returned to Chelsea after spending the first half of the season on loan at Burnley.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is keen on signing Drinkwater on loan until the end of the season after losing midfielder John McGinn to a long-term injury.

According to The Sun, Chelsea have warned Aston Villa they must pay Danny Drinkwater’s full £110,000-a-week wages if they want to sign midfielder on loan.

Chelsea signed Drinkwater from Leicester in a £35million deal in 2017 but his Chelsea career never got off the ground. He made just five Premier League starts in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Last season under Maurizio Sarri, his only appearance for Chelsea was a 30-minute cameo off the bench in the Community Shield.
