Lille were beaten home and away by Chelsea in the Champions League group stage, but the French club has now gotten one against the Blues by agreeing a pre-contract deal with Chelsea youngster Tariq Lamptey.
According to Sky Sports, the Chelsea youngster has chosen Lille OSC over remaining at the club by agreeing the pre-contract deal with the Ligue 1 outfit.
Lamptey’ contract with the club runs out at the end of the season, meaning he can now talk to other clubs outside England, and the Blues academy product isn’t keen to sign a new contract with Chelsea, perceiving that the competition for places in the right-back position is much, with Cesar Azpilicueta and youngster Reece James currently occupying the role.
Lamptey made his debut for the Blues as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 victory over Arsenal, and the 19-year-old impressed.
Lampard had revealed that the club were working on a deal to make him sign a new contract with the club.
“We’ll see. He’s talking with the club and hopefully he feels a bit of love from today as we’ve parachuted him in,” Lampard told reporters when asked about the defender’s contract situation.
“He was actually on his Christmas break when we called him in yesterday. He trained and then played.
“I’d seen him when I was doing my coaching badges and you do a lot of hours with the academy and youth team. I saw him train a lot and I know he has a different dimension as a right-sided wing back.
“He has pace, low centre of gravity and can go by people. Of course he wants to work on his end product and all the last bits.”
