Chelsea boss Frank Lampard named quite a strong squad to face Hull City in the FA Cup fourth round tie at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Blues boss had some youngsters on the bench that he introduced in the second half.
Gilmour was brought on in the 68th minute in place of another Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi and the young midfielder impressed in the middle of the park. Tariq Lamptey was a late sub for Pedro in the 91st minute as Lampard tried to kill off the game.
Explaining his decision to bring them on, Lampard revealed that he trusts the duo and hailed Gilmour’s performances when he came on.
The Chelsea manager said after the game: “It’s because I trust them. I thought Billy Gilmour was the best player on the pitch for the period of time he was on the pitch.
“He came in, he passed it, he moved it, he played the simple pass through the lines, he had little bits of contact. I trust him to come on and do the job.”
