Chelsea defeated Burnley 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last weekend, and despite the Blues dominant display against the Clarets, one of the talking points of the game was that the Chelsea manager didn’t make a single substitution all game long.
Frank Lampard made no substitutions throughout the whole 90 minutes of the game against Burnley on Saturday, and it’s the first time since the Europa League final in 2013 that Chelsea fans have witnessed such an incident.
It seems Lampard never intended to make substitutions during the game as the substitutes didn’t even seem to be called upon to warm up.
Lampard has now explained that he enjoyed the performance of the players so much that he didn’t want to change anyone.
Lampard said: “I was enjoying the game so much. If I was one of the players, I wouldn’t have wanted to come off.”
Lampard has now urged his players to carry the same momentum into the next game against Newcastle as he said: “The subs are called upon at times, but we were playing so well that I let them see the game out.
“It was certainly beneficial that we could work hard all week. You saw the fruits of it. We approached the week in the right way, and we need to do that again going into Newcastle.”
