Paris Saint-Germain striker Edison Cavani has been linked with a move to Chelsea during the January transfer window and the Uruguayan striker is keen on leaving Paris this month.
Chelsea aren’t the only club interested in Cavani. Spanish club Atletico Madrid are also interested in the striker and reportedly lead the race to sign him.
When asked about Chelsea’s interest in Cavani, Lampard was very complimentary about the striker and didn’t rule out a move for Cavani. Lampard also admitted he wasn’t aware of how close the club is to signing the striker.
Asked if Chelsea were interested in Cavani, Lampard told reporters: “He’s a great player. I played against him and I always loved his mentality and his attitude and obviously his goalscoring record speaks for itself.
“I’m not absolutely aware of what the situation is, so we’ll see.”
On whether Cavani would provide some much-needed experience to Chelsea’s young side, Lampard continued: “Yeah, he’s an experienced player but so are many other players out there.
“We are young as a squad, and we know about the transitions, so the idea of bringing in experience is certainly not something I’m looking away from because sometimes the younger players need a bit of help and if that’s the case then that may help us.”
