Despite dominating for large parts of the game, Chelsea lost 1-0 to Newcastle United on Saturday at St James’ Park.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes the players have learned if they don’t finish off chances, they could end up losing a game.

Lampard said: “We need to be more clinical in the box in terms of our front line, when we attack and we spend a lot of time around the opposition box.

“We’ve chipped in with some goals from midfield and we have people who can arrive from midfield, but the brutal reality is that we need more goals from the front line.

“They’ll be hurting and disappointed, everyone. I think we’ve all felt these games before, whether it’s in Academy football, first-team football, Championship football, it happens. I don’t think there’s a naive nature or a young nature to it, I just think it’s football.

“If we don’t finish off our chances you leave the team in the game and you can lose the game.”

  1. Lessons learnt…. Yeah…. Blah blah!
Chelsea had a lot of chances to create goals but not with very good finishes…. And we’ve lost more games like that this season…. When it comes to the other teams being possessive with their attack against Chelsea’s defense, there’s need to be solid and careful not concede goals from poor attempts …. What Chelsea lacks at the moment is more confidence and aggression
