Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has had to play right-back Cesar Azpilicueta in the left-back position as Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri have both struggled at times this season.

This has now led to rumours linking Chelsea with Leicester City fullback Ben Chilwell. The left-back position has been a major problem for Chelsea this season, and the Blues are seeking fresh legs in that area.

While signing up Chilwell might be a difficult ordeal for the club, Lampard is reportedly eyeing a deal to bring Ryan Bertrand back to Stamford Bridge to strengthen his left-back position.

Bertrand has been a regular for Southampton this season having moved to St Mary’s from Stamford Bridge permanently in 2015, and the Daily Mail claim that Lampard is keeping close eyes on the 30-year-old.

Meanwhile, Leicester City are also targeting a move for Bertrand just in case Chilwell leaves the club at the end of the season as Chelsea are strongly keen on the left-back.

Furthermore, former Chelsea striker Demba Ba has warned Chelsea boss Frank Lampard against spending massive amounts of money on too many players in January.

“I would love to see them continue doing what they’re doing,” Ba told the Independent.

“Those youngsters are proving themselves every week. They’re not as experienced as some players who are 27 or 28 so maybe Chelsea could sign some experienced players to help them win the important games, the biggest games.

“It doesn’t mean they have to spend hundreds of millions – I believe small additions can help them. I saw a picture that shows how much Liverpool sold Coutinho for, and the players they bought with this money. The team that they built, it’s unbelievable!

“This year, Chelsea won’t be far off and I believe if the management let Frank do what he’s doing, next year they will surely fight for big titles. I have faith in Lamps.”
