Chelsea have made a late move for Napoli forward Dries Mertens, with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard keen on strengthening Chelsea’s attacking options.
The Blues made a move for Edinson Cavani but the PSG striker prefers a move to Atletico Madrid. Chelsea are also not willing to meet AC Milan’s demand for Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek.
According to The Telegraph, Napoli do not want to sell Mertens so late in this window and would demand a fee of at least £7million for the 32-year-old.
Mertens has scored 118 goals for Napoli over seven seasons at the club, having previously been prolific at PSV Eindhoven.
The report also claims Chelsea would have to offer him at least an 18-month deal worth £150,000-a-week to stand any chance of striking a deal.
