Chelsea lacked creativity in the draw against Brighton, and for the Blues it was two points dropped as Frank Lampard’s side couldn’t get an important win in this New Year’s Day fixture.
Chelsea failed to test the Brighton goalkeeper for much of the game, and it’s further sign that the Chelsea boss must sign players in January.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, but the Blues boss refused to be drawn in on the speculations after the game against Brighton.
Lampard said after the game: “I won’t talk about [Wilfried] Zaha because he’s not a player of ours.
“If we have to do business we’ll do it in the way that we see fit to try to make us better and that will be done behind closed doors as opposed to just announcing who we might want to bring in.”
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has told Chelsea to forget any thoughts of trying to sign Wilfried Zaha this January.
Hodgson said: “Basically, I don’t need assurances, we aren’t trying to sell Wilfried Zaha.
“We want to keep Wilfried Zaha. What assurances can people give? I know no-one [at the club] is anxious to sell Wilfried Zaha.”
Hodgson added: “Of course you never know where bids are going to come from, and if they do, the board of directors will need to take it seriously.”
