Chelsea youngster Tariq Lamptey announced his quality to the Chelsea squad as he impressed in a high profile London derby against Arsenal as the Blues came back from a goal down to beat the Gunners away from home.
Lamptey was in the final year of his contract and the 19-year-old was close to leaving the club. But having made two appearances for the club and winning the trust of his manager, the young right-back has now made a U-turn.
According to The Athletic, an agreement has been reached over a new long-term deal – with an official announcement expected soon.
The Chelsea youngster was closely monitored by Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, whose manager is former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira, but has now committed his future to the club.
Lamptey made his second senior appearance in the club in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.
Chelsea are also close to reaching an agreement with Reece James on a new five-year deal. The club have already seen Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fikayo Tomori sign long-term deals over the last 12 months.
