Chelsea couldn’t hold to an early goal scored by Cesar Azpilicueta as the Blues could only take a draw against Brighton away from home.
A stunning overhead kick from Alireza Jahanbakhsh following a Brighton corner levelled the scores between Brighton and Chelsea as the Blues could only hold on for a draw.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wasn’t too displeased with his team’s defending during setpieces, although he had to admit that Brighton had bigger players.
The Chelsea boss said: “They’re bigger than us so you try to compete as well as you can. They had a few corners, that can happen but then you have to worry about the second balls. You can’t stop the actual execution of the strike.
“I thought we dealt with set-pieces not too badly today to a degree but with one like that it happens and they get their goal.”
Chelsea’s drop in points have now given advantage to Manchester United and Tottenham who are closely following as the race for top four intensifies.
