Chelsea have been linked with a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, but football transfer expert Duncan Castles has now claimed that the 23-year-old will prefer a move to Chelsea rivals Manchester United.
“I think as a sporting project at present it’s easy to argue that Chelsea is the better place to go,” he said on the Transfer Window Podcast. “I know that Dembele likes Manchester United a lot.
“It’s a club that he has been interested in and kind of been hoping that United would crystallise an interest in him as a player that’s very long-standing.
“Dembele, because he broke onto the scene with Fulham at such a young age, has been monitored by these top clubs for multiple years. He’s been scouted and his progress has been watched.
“It’s kind of an object lesson in how the clubs operate and the scouts’ recruitment staff get in touch with the representatives of these players that they are interested in him and kind of build the relationship to put the idea in the head and say to them ‘Look, be patient, there’s a time we will move for you if your progress continues in the way that he want it to continue’.”
Meanwhile, despite Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas stating this week that Dembele isn’t for sale, it is believed a deal can be completed for the 23 year old, and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is pushing the club to complete the transfer of the Lyon striker.
