Chelsea were expected to beat struggling Newcastle at the St James Park on Saturday evening, but the Magpies showed yet again that they aren’t an easy side to roll aside.

With the game heading towards a draw after Chelsea dominance, a heartbreaking stoppage time goal from Isaac Hayden ensured the Magpies took all three points at the St James Park.

Chelsea had 70 percent of the ball and 19 goal attempts but couldn’t convert any, and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted the need to strengthen the squad and revealed that he’d have to strengthen his side’s striking position.

The manager told Sky Sports after the 1-0 loss to Newcastle: “We know we have problems at the top of the pitch in terms of we don’t get enough goals. If you don’t score you are always liable for a sucker punch and they got it.

“If we are looking for people to bring in to the areas to win games when you are controlling it, it is scoring goals.

“We can’t work anymore in training on finishing. You need to have that killer instinct in front of goal. We need to score more goals from front-line areas if we are going to get to where we want to be.

“It’s quite clear from what I am saying now that we know where we need to strengthen but we shall see.”
