Chelsea are keen on completing a late move for Napoli forward Dries Mertens before the January transfer window closes on Friday.
According to The Telegraph, the Belgian international has doubts about joining Chelsea this January because he wants to break a record at Napoli.
Mertens is only four goals short of becoming Napoli’s all-time leading scorer, having already taken over Diego Maradona, and would like to leave with that record.
The 32 year old striker only has six months remaining on his Napoli contract and will prefer to leave Napoli at the end of the season after becoming Napoli’s all-time leading scorer.
Chelsea will have to find a way to convince Mertens about moving to Stamford Bridge before the 11pm Friday night deadline.
