Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal has confirmed the Spanish champions considered a January move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.
The France international was keen on leaving Stamford Bridge in the summer and was linked with a move to Italian club Inter Milan.
Giroud’s move to Inter Milan collapsed and Barcelona have now confirmed they also considered a move to Giroud.
“It is logical that in summer a ‘nine’ will come,” Abidal told SPORT.
“It is a necessity. We know that Suarez will come back strong, but you have to bring a top player in the summer.
“There is a list of players like Giroud, Llorente or Aubameyang, but for one thing or another we decided not to sign someone in January.”
