22 year old Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter has revealed he is eyeing a place in Frank Lampard’s team next season.
Clarke-Salter is currently on loan at Championship side Birmingham City and he expects to play as much as possible at Birmingham City to improve his chances of making Lampard’s team next season.
“Just to play as well as I can and in as many games as I can,” Clarke-Salter told Chelsea’s official website as he talked about his plans to make Lampard’s team next season.
“That will put me in good stead for next season whatever happens with me.”
Clarke-Salter was England U21’s captain at last summer’s European Championship finals in Italy and San Marino.
England were eliminated at the group stage of the competition.
“It was a good experience and being able to captain the side was great. Obviously the team did not do as well as we should have with the players we had [England went out at the group stage],” he said, speaking of his role as England captain last summer.
“We were all disappointed afterwards, with the quality we had in the room we should have done a lot better, but that is something we all learn from and everyone just wants to kick on.”
