According to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, football is more than sport in Africa, it is a religion.

Speaking to the New York Times, Drogba said: “Football is not only a sport in Africa. It’s more than a sport. Football is a religion. Football unites people.

“When you see people playing, you see adults, you see kids. It’s the sport of the people. There’s no first class, no business class. Everyone is the same.”

Drogba remains Ivory Coast all-time top scorer and the first-ever Ivorian to notch a goal at the World Cup.

He made 381 appearances for the Blues and scored 164 goals.
