According to Paul Merson, Chelsea have no hope of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League with Michy Batshuayi as the main striker.

The Belgium international started the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Monday night in the absence of the injured Tammy Abraham but was replaced by Olivier Giroud after an ineffective 68 minutes.

Chelsea are now just one point above fifth-placed Tottenham, who visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Merson said: “When you look at Chelsea, you’re not going to get into the top four with Michy Batshuayi up front. He’s not good enough.

“I honestly think Sheffield United have every chance this season [to finish in the top four]. Neither Chelsea nor Manchester United seem to have the guile to break teams down.”
