Liverpool lost for the third time this season as Atletico Madrid defeated the Reds 1-0 in the Champions League round of 16 clash at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday night.

Former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata did something Blues fans had become accustomed to, as he fluffed his lines against the Reds.

Saul Niguez gave Atletico an early lead in the first half, and Alvaro Morata had a glaring chance in the second half to finish the game off for the Spanish side, but he rather fell over and kicked his own leg as he tried to sweep the ball towards goal.

Morata injured himself as he missed the sitter and hobbled around the pitch for a while before taken off by Diego Simeone.

Morata had many of those experiences at Chelsea, and Liverpool legend Steve McManaman, commentating for BT Sport, saw the funny side of Morata’s miss as he said: “I think that’s where he kicked himself when he slipped.

“When he gets up from the slip he’s grimacing and holding his ankle. Sore point when you injure yourself as well!”

Chelsea paid £60m to sign Morata, but after a fine start to his career at Chelsea, it never really worked out for Morata at the Bridge and he was eager to leave the club before being sold to boyhood club Atletico Madrid.
