Chelsea have been in the top four since November, but the Blues’ position as fourth is now under serious threat.
Tottenham are close behind with just a point and both teams meet this weekend, Sheffield United are two points behind Chelsea, while Manchester United are three points behind.
With 12 games left in the Premier League, there is still so much to play for, and Chelsea’s position in fourth has never been this insecure.
Meanwhile, former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson believes Blues boss Frank Lampard has done very well so far and has backed Chelsea to finish fourth, insisting that no one gave the young manager a chance at the start of the season.
“I think they’ll have enough [for a top four finish],” Johnson told Sky Sports. “I said at the start of the season that fourth would be an unbelievable season from where Lamps picked them up.
“I think looking at where they were in the summer, getting anywhere near fourth would’ve been a good season. Forget home and away form, I think they’ve had a great season.
“Continue the way they are I think they will get fourth anyway and I don’t think they’ll need to rely on the City ban to be upheld to qualify for the Champions League.”
