Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud was desperate to leave the club in the winter transfer window in order to get some game time and boost his chances of making the Euro 2020 squad for France in the summer.
A mover to Inter was reportedly agreed, but the deal fell through, as well as a move to Lazio, with Tottenham also rumoured to be interested.
The 33-year-old will now remain at Chelsea until the end of the season against his wishes.
Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has blasted the club for not letting Giroud leave during the January transfer window.
“That’s the biggest shock really,” the former Chelsea defender said.
“The player wanted to go and get some regular football.
“I quite like the fact they haven’t just signed anybody but they couldn’t get their top targets through the door.
“But I think Chelsea should have tried harder to get Giroud out and a replacement in.”
Giroud will now leave for free at the end of the season.
