Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has come under fire this season due to his poor performances in goal.
Having conceded 32 goals in 24 PL games and kept only 5 clean sheets, the 25-year-old has come under fire for failing to justify his hefty transfer fee.
Kepa was dropped to the bench for Chelsea’s last game before the winter break, with second choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero preferred in goal to the Spaniard in the 2-2 draw against Leicester City.
The Blues have been linked with some goalkeeping transfer targets, and former Chelsea goalkeeper Brad Friedel believes that the club could go for another keeper during the summer.
Friedel explained to Bonuscodebets: “I’m sure the club will obviously try to look elsewhere and build their squad with another keeper.
“That doesn’t mean there won’t be opportunities for him, he may have to stay and fight for his place. The hard thing with a goalkeeper is that there’s only one that plays.”
Friedel believes that Kepa’s future is dependent on how he faces his current adversity at the club.
“Kepa seems to have a lot of talent, but you never know how people are going to react to adversity.
“That’s the big thing, every keeper at a club from the first choice, second and third all have talent.
“But what separates them is the mentality, and how you deal with adversity. Maybe it has taken its toll with him.”
