It was a surprise to many as Chelsea beat interest from other clubs to sign highly rated Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech earlier this month.
The 26-year-old will spend the remainder of the season with the Dutch club before joining Chelsea at the end of the season.
Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has revealed how he told Daniel Levy about Hakim Ziyech before he signed for Chelsea, but the Spurs chief refused to listen to him.
He told Championat in Russia : “I told him (Levy) earlier. I really like this footballer. He can do everything – both score and assist. Watching him is a pleasure. But overall, Chelsea are playing differently, a bit more Dutch in a sense, so Ziyech will suit his future team.”
Meanwhile, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has hailed Chelsea’s latest signing Hakim Ziyech as a fantastic signing for the club, and likened him to Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez.
He said: “He is a great set-piece taker. A bit like Mahrez, he can go at people, he can dribble. He can just go at you and go past you. Fantastic assist record, a hell of a talent and I think Chelsea are very lucky to get him.
“He’s like Mahrez physique wise, he will go past you, he will see passes, he’s quite direct, he’s just got a great array of set-pieces that he will take and get on the ball.
“He has got everything in the game. He destroyed Real Madrid last year, he really played a big part in them getting the better of Madrid.”
