Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud impressed in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, with the Frenchman scoring Chelsea’s opener.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has now revealed the tactical decision he made against Tottenham Hotspur to bring out the best in Giroud.
Lampard said: “When Oli is playing, you have to play to his strengths.
“You have to put balls into the box, you have to use him to bring people into the game and if we have to adapt slightly for games like that, that’s just the test that me and the players are under.
“The system only works if the players play the way they play.
“The system only works if Ross and Mason are so mobile around Oli up front and give you a threat behind as well.
“The system only works if the back three today don’t sit off and allow people to turn on the ball because they’re playing with two false strikers.
“We work on it but it’s the players who enforce it and they make the system work.”
