Chelsea are currently fourth in the league, and the Blues have a fight until the end of the season to maintain a grip on their top four status.

Manchester United are three points behind Chelsea, while Spurs are four points behind, and United are gaining strength as the season draws near to its end.

Frank Lampard has now explained Spurs and United have the advantage as they strengthened their teams in the last two windows.

“When you look around us and you look at the form of Manchester United, they were already a strong outfit that bought very well last summer,” he said.

“They spent £150m on three very good signings and then had more players come in during the [January] window that have strengthened them so they look good.

“It’s similar with Tottenham – in the last two windows, they’ve spent money and they’re a good team.

“I expected them to be in the race because they’re too good a team not to be in the race and the points in this league can change very quickly for different reasons.”
