Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek hasn’t featured for the Blues since rupturing his Achilles in Chelsea’s end of season friendly against New England Revolution last May.
The 24-year-old has been involved in the first team’s training recently and was part of a close door friendly game with the youth team against Brentford B team where he lasted an hour on the pitch without any worries.
Loftus-Cheek was expected to play for the development squad’s clash against Arsenal on Monday, but he didn’t even make the squad for that game prompting fears that something could be wrong with the midfielder.
There were fears that Loftus-Cheek might have suffered a recurrence of the long-term Achilles injury, which could further delay his comeback. However, those fears have been allayed as the Chelsea twitter handle shared images of Loftus-Cheek walking to training.
Speaking in his press conference ahead of Manchester United clash, Lampard said: “Ruben won’t be fit for this game… he’s getting closer… it’s great to have him nearly back.”
