Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is gradually making the step up from his long absence due to injury as he’s set for another bit of action.
The 24-year-old had featured in a closed door friendly against Brentford B team just last week and lasted an hour on the pitch. Loftus-Cheek will now try to boost his recovery by featuring for the Chelsea U23s in their game against Arsenal on Monday.
Loftus-Cheek hasn’t featured for Chelsea since rupturing his achilles in Chelsea’s end of season friendly against New England Revolution last May. He eventually missed the Europa League final afterwards.
After so many setbacks, Loftus-Cheek is near the end of his long road back to fitness after rupturing his achilles.
The club had originally planned to give Loftus-Cheek only 45 minutes in the friendly game against Brentford but as he felt comfortable he continued until the hour mark and has since reported no ill-effects.
Loftus-Cheek has also been training with the first team squad since last month, and will be a useful addition to the team once he makes his return.
