According to The Athletic, Chelsea winger Willian wants a three year contract to remain at Chelsea but the Blues are reluctant to meet his contract demands.
The report claims Willian’s contract stand-off with the club is not about the wage package but contract length.
Chelsea have a policy of offering just one year deals to players aged 30 and above but that rule was relaxed last season to tie David Luiz down to a two-year deal due to the transfer ban on the club.
Willian’s three year contract demands is deemed unreasonable by the Chelsea hierarchy despite Willian’s importance to the team this season under Frank Lampard.
The club hierarchy believe offering a three year deal to a winger who relies predominantly on his speed and stamina won’t be the wisest move in terms of getting good value for money.
However, Willian is confident that his fitness levels will allow him to play at the highest level for at least another three years.
Should Willian be offered a new three year contract by Chelsea?
