Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League, and it was expected that the Blues would have made some signings during the January transfer window as the transfer ban placed on the club was lifted.
Chelsea surprisingly didn’t make any signings much to the frustration of Blues boss Frank Lampard.
Premier League legend Alan Shearer can understand the manager’s frustration as his side wasn’t improved on.
“Just like Manchester United, Chelsea have been desperate for a new striker to take the pressure off their top scorer, Tammy Abraham,” he told the Sun.
“They fought so hard to get the transfer ban lifted in time for the January window so it was puzzling that they didn’t make any big signings.
“You can completely understand Frank Lampard’s frustration the club did not bring anyone in — that was clear from his short and sharp press conference before Saturday’s draw at Leicester.”
Shearer went on to reveal that finishing fourth will be a big accomplishment for Frank Lampard.
“If Chelsea go on to keep their place in the top four and secure Champions League football, it will be a huge achievement for Lampard given he won’t have signed anyone in his first year as manager,” he added.
“He is being helped by the likes of United, Tottenham and Arsenal having indifferent seasons.
“Although he does need to be wary of both Sheffield United and Wolves, who will fancy their chances of catching the Blues.”
