Daily Express reported this week that the Blues are lining up an £85 million move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey.
The report also claimed the Blues will drop interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as the club seems him too expensive.
Chelsea have been warned against signing Bailey and have been urged to instead spend the money on Sancho.
This is according to European football expert Gabriele Marcotti.
Marcotti believes Sancho is younger and more talented than Bailey.
“Alright, with all respect to Leon Bailey I think these numbers are crazy,” Marcotti told ESPN FC.
“£85m for Leon Bailey when Jadon Sancho, who is younger and a lot more talented in my opinion, can be had for not much more than that.
“Personally I see this as one of those stories that gets put out there, obviously Chelsea are chasing Jadon Sancho along with a host of other clubs, and all of sudden these stories go out ‘Oh but what if they went for Bailey instead?’ and maybe that lights a fire under some people.
“But for me, I don’t see it, I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on Leon Bailey.”
Sancho has scored 14 goals and assisted 15 in just 23 league appearances for Borussia Dortmund while Bailey has scored 5 goals and provided just one assist in 14 league appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
