It has been a long road to recovery for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. The 24-year-old hasn’t featured for the Blues since rupturing his achilles in the Charity game against New England Revolution last May.
Since his return from injury, Loftus-Cheek had only played an hour of football with the youth team last month as he featured against Brentford B team. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that Loftus-Cheek might still need to gain match fitness before featuring for the senior team, despite being included in the squad for the last three games.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek played the full 90 minutes of Monday night’s PL2 match at Aldershot against Everton, as the Chelsea team won 1-0.
Loftus-Cheek had a good game in midfield and won the penalty which was dispatched by Luke McCormick.
There was a late moment of concern when Loftus-Cheek was chopped down by a challenge that earned an opponent a yellow card but after treatment he was on his feet to complete the game.
Chelsea fans have been reacting to the performance of the long-awaited Loftus-Cheek who showed just why Lampard is yearning for his return to the senior team.
Speaking on his team news for Tuesday’s Liverpool clash, Lampard said of Loftus-Cheek: “There are no fresh returns from the injury list. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is playing in the Under-23s this evening to get 90 minutes hopefully, or somewhere towards that, which would be great for him.”
