UEFA held an emergency meeting on Tuesday morning and reached an agreement for the Euro 2020 to be shifted to next year.
This decision will afford leagues to find a way for the season to end after most leagues have been on hold since the coronavirus outbreak hit the football world.
The UEFA Champions League final and Europa League final were also shifted from May till June.
“UEFA today announced the postponement of its flagship national team competition,” UEFA released via a statement.
“UEFA EURO 2020, due to be played in June and July this year. The health of all those involved in the game is the priority, as well as to avoid placing any unnecessary pressure on national public services involved in staging matches.
“The move will help all domestic competitions, currently on hold due to the COVID-19 emergency, to be completed.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea fans seem to happy that this will afford Ruben Loftus-Cheek enough time to recover and even make the team for next summer’s Euro, as well as Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek is yet to make a first team appearance for the Blues this season after suffering a ruptured achilles in the post-season friendly against New England Revolution at the end of last season.
