Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour has been the talk of the Chelsea team since his five star performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup fifth round tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Gilmour was deservedly named the man of the match after a super performance that saw him boss the midfield.

Gilmour is being touted to feature against Everton this weekend due to the current injury crisis in the Chelsea midfield, and one may wonder whether the 18-year-old can play at such heights in the Premier League against a quality opposition as Everton.

Meanwhile, St Patrick’s defender-cum-midfielder Lee Desmond doesn’t think Gilmour is a onetime wonder having faced the teenager during pre-season.

Lee Desmond claims that the whole team were talking about Gilmour after the young Scot made a difference the very minute he entered the field.

“He was unreal,” the Irishman recalled speaking to The42. “I swear to God, I’m not just saying it because of the game against Liverpool but I remember after the game all the lads were in the dressing room saying the same thing: ‘Fucking hell, who was that kid for them in midfield?’

“We were going through the programme to get his name and it was Billy Gilmour. I said it to all my mates after the game that this was the player to watch out for this season at Chelsea.

“I actually thought he would have been more involved in the Premier League but Lampard is obviously protecting him. He was a different class and I would say he was already technically better than a lot of the first-team lads at that point.”

Gilmour have only played sparingly since pre-season and is yet to start a Premier League game.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
