Chelsea are struggling at the moment, and the Blues fight for a top four finish is being threatened after a draw against struggling Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea had started the game ahead, with a 1-0 lead at half-time, but the Blues only managed to end the game with a 2-2 draw having fallen behind quickly after the restart and were only helped by a late Marcos Alonso equaliser.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has often blamed his side for inability to finish chances and thinks his forward players are not scoring enough goals, and that was the case again at the Vitality Stadium, with Chelsea’s goals coming from Marcos Alonso.
Analysing the game against Bournemouth on Match of the Day, Newcastle legend Alan Shearer gave his reasons for Chelsea’s current dip in form and blamed it on inconsistency in both the attack and the defence.
“Chelsea had a nine point cushion to fifth in November but that could go to one tomorrow if Manchester United win,” said the former Newcastle forward.
“They are conceding too many goals, that is 39 conceded, but there is also no consistency in the players they are using in the back line.
“Marcos Alonso, a defender, scored both their goals today and it is not enough, they need other players to contribute.”
Chelsea have won just one league game this year and stand the risk of missing out on a top four place, with Manchester United keen on closing the gap.
