Willian scored the first goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.

Liverpool’s second choice goalkeeper Adrian was in goal for this fixture as Jurgen Klopp decided to rest Alisson for this game. However, Adrian, who was between the sticks, after making some impressive saves failed to deal with a rather straightforward attempt by Willian in the first half.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has chosen to rather put the blame on his players rather than the goalkeeper, as he thinks they weren’t ready to quickly pass the ball out from the back.

“The first goal, we lose a ball, what was it 18, 19 yards in front of the goal?” Klopp explained.

“The specific characteristic of the ball and Willian’s shooting technique made life really difficult.”

“Before that Adrian saved a sensational ball. He caught the ball and quick restart, which was a good idea, but not everybody was ready,” the German added.

“Fabinho was surprised by the pass. We wanted to play like this but we lose that ball and they finish it off.”

Interestingly, Chelsea’s press against Liverpool was high and active, and one of such presses led to the Blues opening goal in what was a good performance against the league leaders.
