Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour was named man of the match for the second consecutive game after his brilliant performance in Chelsea’s 4-0 thrashing of Everton on Sunday.
The game against Everton was Gilmour’s Premier League debut.
Speaking after the game against Everton, Gilmour said: “It was amazing, a dream come true to make my full debut in the Premier League on my debut. I found out I was playing this morning in the team meeting.”
Asked prior to kick-off if it was an easy decision to hand Gilmour his first Premier League start for Chelsea, Lampard said: “On one hand, yes, because he deserves to play; on the other hand, we have injuries and suspensions in the same area.
“But I don’t want that to be the reason Billy is playing. Billy is playing because he has trained well all season. He played very well against Liverpool and I expect more of the same today.
“He’s young and I don’t want to heap too much on his shoulders but I believe in him and in the midfield.
“We’re young in there today but hopefully we’ll have a lot of energy and quality.”
