Billy Gilmour had not featured for Chelsea in the last four months, and was given a rare starting opportunity in the FA Cup fifth round tie against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The 18-year-old produced a masterclass in midfield and was named as the man of the match in that game.
Gilmour started in midfield along with Ross Barkley and Mateo Kovacic, and he has revealed that he is not shy about conversing with his teammates even if those around him have many years more experience.
He said after the game: “I am not here to be quiet. I need to tell folk to get into position and it is the same for people telling me, that is how I get better and that is how they get better.
“I have to communicate and specifically with my position I play in I need to do that.”
The Chelsea fans chanted Billy’s name during the game, but the youngster has admitted that he didn’t hear it as he was too focused on the game.
“I was zoned out,” he explained. “I had total focus on the game. You can hear the fans but you don’t listen particularly to what they are saying.”
