The Premier League has seen some legendary goalkeepers over the time, and it’ll be hard to put a rating for the best Premier League goalkeepers of all time.
Premier League legend Alan Shearer has now named his best ten goalkeepers with United’s Peter Schmeichel as the best Premier League keeper, while Arsenal’s David Seaman is second and Petr Cech is third in his list.
Check out Shearer’s top ten
- Peter Schmeichel
- David Seaman
- Petr Cech
- Edwin Van Der Sar
- David De Gea
- Jens Lehmann
- Shay Given
- David James
Cech was outstanding in the 2004/05 season where he registered 24 clean sheets in the Premier League and conceded just 15 goals. To add to the 24 clean sheets, there was a very impressive run of 10 league games without conceding a goal (December 18 – February 12). What could be more legendary than this feat?
Meanwhile, about his ratings, Shearer said: “I’ve taken everything into account, the number of years and appearances.”
“De Gea, when he came, he struggled, but there was a time when he was brilliant. Over the last 12 months, he’s made too many mistakes.”
“We’re on about goalkeepers changing now but van der Sar could play. We keep going on about Alisson and Ederson as how goalkeeping has changed but there’s no doubt he could pass the ball.
“The reason I’ve put Cech third is I’ve played with David Seaman, I know how hard he worked in training and how dedicated he was.
“That’s why I’ve got Seaman ahead of him.”
