Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour has been one of the standout players from the club’s academy this season as the 18-year-old had found a way to the Chelsea team just before the suspension of the league.

Gilmour featured from the start as Manchester United defeated Chelsea for the second time this season in the Carabao Cup clash back in October, with United winning that particular fixture 2-1.

Gilmour has now revealed that he received an encouraging text message from Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay after the game.

Asked to name his most difficult opponent, Gilmour said during a live Twitch stream: “In a game I’d say Scott McTominay, not just because he’s Scottish, it was just in that game I found it very difficult.

“[There’s] no rivalry, I don’t know him that well. But after the match he did text me and said, ‘keep doing what you’re doing’.

“I thought that was really nice of him.”
