According to Sky Sports, Napoli striker Dries Mertens will join Chelsea ahead of next season if Olivier Giroud leaves the summer at the end of the current season.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on strengthening his attacking options and he is reportedly a huge fan of Mertens because of his ability to play as a centre-forward and also as a wide player.

Mertens has 90 caps for Belgium and has scored 121 goals in 319 games for Napoli across seven seasons.

Sky Sports claim talks have already begun between Chelsea and the 32-year-old’s representatives about a switch to London.
