Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens, despite the fact he turns 33 next week, as he can cover a number of positions.
Lampard tried to sign the Belgian international during the January transfer window but Mertens was reluctant to leave Napoli in January as he had his eyes on becoming the club’s record goalscorer.
Mertens has reportedly made a decision on his future amid reports linking Chelsea with the Belgian international.
According to Daily Mail, Mertens has a number of offers on the table but the Belgian international prefers a move to Stamford Bridge.
Mertens has spent seven seasons in Italy since arriving in an £8million move from PSV Eindhoven and has played 309 matches, scoring 121 times – making him the club’s joint-highest marksman with Marek Hamsik.
