Chelsea struck a deal with Ajax two months ago to sign Hakim Ziyech for an initial fee of £33.4million, with the attacking-midfield star agreeing to put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

Ziyech was expected to join Chelsea on July 1 but that has now been pushed forward following the latest decision by the Dutch FA.

The Dutch FA have announced that all professional football in the Netherlands has been suspended until September 1.

The news is a blow for Chelsea and boss Frank Lampard as the attacking midfielder was expected to arrive in July following the completion of the Dutch league.

With the Dutch league postponed until September, Ziyech will go a full six months without playing, meaning it would take Chelsea time to get him up to speed and regain match sharpness.

There’s also the possibility Chelsea might begin a new season without the Moroccan international if a new Premier League season commences before the Dutch league restarts in September.
