Real Madrid Striker Karim Benzema recently compared himself to a F1 car while labelling Giroud a go-kart as he took a dig at the Chelsea striker who had since taken his place in the French national team.
Former French international left-back Bixente Lizarazu has admitted that Benzema only made those comments out of frustration.
“Karim Benzema is expressing his frustration with the French team,” said Lizarazu, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
“What he does in Madrid is extraordinary, and he can’t do it with the Blues. But Giroud is paying the price (for Benzema’s frustration), and he has nothing to do with it.”
Interestingly, Giroud has also scored more goals for France than Benzema. Giroud has scored 39 goals in 97 appearances for France at an average of 0.40 goals per game, while Benzema has netted 27 goals in 81 appearances for France at an average of 0.3 goals per game.
