Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League and it was expected if the Premier League season is cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, clubs currently in the top four will qualify for the Champions League next season.
A plan by UEFA to select Champions League teams for next season could see Chelsea miss out on Champions League football next season.
According to The Sun, UEFA chiefs have been urged to order associations to use club coefficient system to determine who plays Champions League and Europa League football next season.
The UEFA club coefficient system is based on performances in Europe over the past five years.
According to the proposal, the top four clubs in the coefficient system will qualify for the Champions League while the next three clubs qualify for the Europa League.
Using the coefficient system will see Chelsea miss out on Champions League football next season as the Blues are sixth in the coefficient ranking.
