Timo Werner is a man in demand, and why won’t he, after a sensational season with RB Leipzig where he has scored 27 goals in 36 appearances so far.
Liverpool are believed to be the front-runners for his signature and rumours had suggested that the Reds have even gone as far as making negotiations for the 24-year-old.
However, RB Leipzig’s head of football Oliver Mintzlaff has denied there has been any request for a meeting.
“Neither Jurgen Klopp nor Karl-Heinz Rummenigge contacted me,” he told General-Anzeiger.
“We are happy that we were able to extend the contract with him until 2023. He played a really strong first half of the season and was not the only reason why we won the autumn championship because of his 18 goals.
“We also believe that we are still a very good stage for Timo Werner on which he can develop as a German international.”
Meanwhile, it seems that the 24-year-old is also preparing towards a move to the Premier League as Bleacher Report claim the Germany international has started taking English lessons during the lockdown.
