Former Chelsea star John Mikel Obi is a free agent after terminating his contract with Turkish club, Trabzonspor.
Mikel fell out with the Turkish club’s president after his statements about the season going on amid the coronavirus pandemic, and it didn’t go well with the club’s owner who wanted Mikel to take down his post from social media, to which the former Chelsea star refused.
According to reports, Brazilian side Botafogo are doing everything possible to sign the Nigerian and are trying to lure him with a mouth-watering contract.
ESPN report that Mikel has been offered a mouth-watering 18-month contract worth $2million by Botafogo, more than what he earned at Trabzonspor.
Mikel has confirmed that the reports are true but he is yet to make a final decision.
“Yes there has been interest, and yes there have been negotiations but I don’t know yet. I am still thinking about it. Not sure yet,” Mikel told ESPN.
