Philippe Coutinho has struggled to live up to expectation at Barcelona since his move in 2018 from Liverpool for a fee believed to be around £145 million.
Coutinho is currently on loan at German giants Bayern Munich, and racked up eight goals and six assists before the coronavirus pandemic brought the sport to an abrupt halt but his performances haven’t been enough to convince the German giants to make the move permanent.
On Wednesday morning, Sky Sports suggested that Chelsea are ‘one of the clubs’ that has been offered the chance to sign the former Liverpool star, but former Leicester City and Barcelona striker has called those rumours ‘nonsense’, and doesn’t believe they are true.
Lineker tweeted: “This nonsense always makes me laugh.
“If a club wants to sell a player, they’d hardly limit it to a few clubs of their choosing.
“‘Hi there Mr Abramovich, we want to sell you Coutinho and we don’t want him to go anywhere but Chelsea. How considerate, we’ll take him.'”
However, one fan replied to Lineker’s tweet, stating: “I read it as ‘the players agent has decided that this collection of clubs would pay him an acceptable fee and are thus options for a transfer'”.
To which the ex-Barca striker responded: “That may well be more accurate.
“Truth is these are all just guesses. They haven’t got a clue.”
