Chelsea announced on Saturday that the players will continue to be paid in full after negotiations to with players to accept a wage-cut failed.
Chelsea’s initial request was for the players to take a 30 per cent salary reduction, which was rejected by the players. Instead, footballers unanimously decided to take a 10 per cent wage cut for the next four months.
However, reports claim both parties are still holding amicable discussions over potential reductions.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea players are still willing to accept salary cuts, However, they want to be sure that the money they sacrifice will go for the NHS and those in need rather than the club’s owners.
With clubs not getting any broadcasting and matchday revenue these days, many clubs are being affected financially by the impact of the enforced lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
